Greetings From Sydney!!!

G’day blog friends!

I’ve been MIA from my blog lately, and that’s because I’m currently in my second favorite city in the world — Sydney, Australia! I arrived in town last Friday, and after a few opening days of annoying rain and unseasonably cool temps, it looks like summer has come back to Sydney. Not the 100+ temps of a few weeks ago, but a much more pleasant 80-ish, which is just perfect for me.

As usual, Sydney is beautiful, and I feel like I’ve been welcomed home. The nature of this trip is photography, of course, especially as I take my new camera and telephoto lens for their first international trip, and so far so good. But the months of December and January were stressful with work and all, so relaxation, rejuvenation and recharging are also very high on the agenda.

Even at this early juncture, the highlight of this trip has been watching the Super Bowl … at 10:30 Monday morning, which pretty much means that breakfast consisted of beer, beer, and more beer … I’m pretty sure there was a chili dog thrown in there somewhere.

3monkeys1I watched the game in a rowdy downtown pub called the Three Wise Monkeys that was packed with American and Canadian tourists, and ex-pats starving for American football — because as we all know, that’s the only football that matters. I was actually surprised at how many people from both San Francisco and Baltimore were there, including one drunk, obnoxious idiot from Baltimore who was getting all up in people’s faces until the gigantic bouncer kindly asked him to leave. Being that said bouncer was double his size, he had no choice but to concede, and he had to watch the Ravens win from out on the street. Loser!

It’s a bummer that the Niners lost, but truth be told, I was having so much fun chatting it up with people from all around the world that I barely paid attention to the game, although I did subject myself to Beyonce’s lame-o halftime show, which was like so much cotton candy: soft, fluffy and instantly forgettable. Geez, it was almost enough to make a guy nostalgic for the good ol’ days of Madonna.

Anywho, as I said, the sun has finally come back to Sydney, enough to get me a slight sunburn on my arms, face and neck. But for this sun-starved citizen of foggy San Francisco, it hurts so good! But I was also able to get my camera out in earnest yesterday and today, and I’ve been like a kid in candy shop! I hope to take a lot more pics which I will of course share with you, and I will check in every few days or so to regale you with humorous antedotes and pithy observations as I continue on my Sydney tour, 2013!!! Just don’t expect a post a day — I’ve got a tan to work on!

Cheers, mates!

  1. I’ve wondered what you were up to! Though I’ve noticed the occasional Ailsa from you, I’ve been missing your art gallery posts and wishing for more. Be sure and have a great time in Sydney, and come back ready to entertain me some more with your posts (I’m a glutton for nice photography).

Oh my God. I am so jealous that you’re over there. I went there back in 07 and I gotta say it was the best trip of my life. I loved everything about Australia. Looks like you have great weather. :) Enjoy the sites.

I’m not a huge Beyonce fan, but I gotta say it was one of the better half-time shows for years and years… probably the best since Justin Timberlake and Janet Jackson.

Also, have fun in Sydney! I grew up there, and love that city!

    • Het there, Mr. Pan … good to hear from you. Judging from the reactions I’m receiving from Facebook friends and other bloggers I’m definitely in the minority with the whole Beyonce’s thing, but then again, I thought last year’s Madonna show was awesome … go figure!

      I love this city too!!!
