There’s a whole yin and yang thing going on! Fun fact: this massive structure was built without a single nail!

Hi, and thanks for commenting. Oh, you bet. This was a deeply serene place … you couldn’t help but feel a sense of peacefulness. And this temple is just a small part of a massive complex. Sitting as it does in the middle of an urban environment really accentuated the sense of solitude and contemplation.
An interesting contrast: one between spiritual and the rushed modern lifestyle spring to mind; as well as the obvious architectural contrast.
Hi Colline. Exactly, and I’m glad you picked up on that. This temple was just part of a larger complex of classic structures and gardens, and I spent hours here (they also have an amazing restaurant that serves only vegetarian meals). But leave the entrance gates and you’re right back in the middle of an urban swirl of people, traffic, noise and everything else that entails.
Knowing Hong Kong quite well I see this type of architecture is typical of the city! Beautiful awe inspiring architecture from the past, cooled with incredible heights and buildings from the future. What I hadn’t noticed before, was the contrast in coloursmlikethe yin/yang colours you have going here and the incredible (fact) that the temple was built without a single nail!!! Thanks for introducing new facts into something I mightn’t otherwise have known 🙂
Hi! I love Hong Kong! And you’re spot on with your comment, that is, classic, old-style structures stand side by side with modern architecture, in some cases on the same street. Tokyo is a lot like that, as well. You rarely see that here in America, even in older cities like New York or Philadelphia. Thanks for checking in!

Thank you. The Chi Lin Nunnery is an amazing place, and this building is just one of many in a sprawling complex of temples and ponds. It also boasts an excellent vegetarian restaurant. It’s an intensely peaceful place smack in the middle of hectic Hong Kong. Glad you liked the pic.
