You can’t get much closer to people than on a Tokyo subway train at rush hour …
… unless you get off at Shibuya Station.

Hi Rita, and thanks for stopping by. Japan’s a really exciting place, but you have to be prepared for lots of people everywhere … especially on subways. (PS – liked your shot a lot … very intriguing)

Wonderful photos!
Thanks NN … I appreciate the kind words.
The worst thing about living in the city and catching the subway – being too close to strangers!
Agreed Colline … one misplaced sneeze or uncovered cough on a crowded bus or subway car can really wreak havoc. Thanks for stopping by!
Yeah, that’s pretty close alright!
claustrophobic close!!!
Good idea for ‘Close’, but I’m also glad I don’t have to live there! 🙂
Hi Reb. The Japanese are such a polite, orderly people that they just seem to take it in stride.
This remind me when i was in tokyo during peak hours. Horrendous!
… and then you get off at Shinjuku Station where things really get interesting!!!
I couldn’t agree more!
No, it doesn’t get any closer than this..
Hi Emma, and thanks for checking it out. Reminds me of line from the Police song ‘Synchronicity 2: “Packed like lemmings into shiny metal boxes.”
Haha, I ride on this train every morning.
wow!!! makes me glad i work from home!
Oh, that is too close!
Hi Madhu! You get used to it after a while. It’s all part of the experience of visiting such a cool city.
Ha, Ha, Ha,
I went to Shibuya 3 days ago.
Japan is close everywhare.
I really liked Shibuya … very exciting!!! Lots of cool stores, and Tower Records! All of the Tower Records closed here in the States about five years ago. It used to be my favorite store.
as close as can be
Hi Rosa! Like sardines!
Great subway shot!
thanks … a bit of a challenge to take with so many people around and with the subway car rocking.
You certainly handled that challenge well, Stephen!
hey hookie … i pulled that one out of my hat!
OMG! You took me right back to Tokyo! 🙂
right? just wouldn’t be Tokyo without the crowds!
I hate to say that I did not enjoy as much in Tokyo than Kyoto because of the crowds! The crowds were just too overwhelming for me.
Hi Alex … yes, Tokyo was much more crowded than Kyoto. But I grew up in a big city and I now live in another big city, so the crowds in Tokyo weren’t that intimidating to me. And Tokyo is so much fun, it’s worth it to deal with crowds. But I’ve heard from others who said it was just too crowded and fast-paced for them. To each his own, eh?
Ya, I agree. To each his own.
Oh, I can soooo relate! Good one for the theme. I made a few trips to Japan on business, and the morning rush hour foot traffic was incredibly crowded. You needed to keep up with the flow or you wouldn’t get anywhere.
hey there fergimoto! agreed, it’s definitely not a place for the timid or faint of heart … good times!
